Haohao Qiaoshi Liu is a Finnish-Chinese filmmaker based between New York, Helsinki, and Sydney. She graduated cum laude from Columbia University in 2025 with a degree in Film and Media Studies.

She values close communication and creative accountability in every collaboration. Her films bridge narrative and documentary, exploring displacement, memory, and otherness through non-linear storytelling.

Her short films have screened internationally in competition at Oscar- and European Film Award-qualifying festivals. She was selected as a semifinalist for this year’s New Voices Filmmaker Grant, hosted by NewFest in partnership with Netflix.

Beginning her filmmaking practice in post-production, Haohao pays special attention to how colour and rhythm shape and push stories forward. “It is highly unlikely that you will ever meet a colourist who enjoys that process as much as Haohao.”
